Only Murders in the Building follows three amateur true-crime podcasters as they investigate murders within their Upper West Side apartment building, the Arconia. Each season begins with our multigenerational trio, Mabel (Selena Gomez), a Latina woman finding her true passion, Charles (Steve Martin), a former TV detective, and Oliver (Martin Short), an eccentric theater director, hot on the case of yet another murder in their building. Initially bonding over a true crime podcast, the three quickly becoming integral to one another’s lives creating a unique balance of humor and heart as they search for the truth. Each season brings new challenges and characters, using the series’ murder mystery framework to explore themes of loneliness and community to follow the complex stories of those that have passed away. The show balances comedy with poignant reflection on the current cultural moment, emphasizing how our lives are interconnected in surprising and sometimes tragic ways.
