This Way Up was an incredibly personal project for writer/creator Aisling Bea. Aisling’s writing is wonderfully raw and honest and somehow manages to jump from an intense emotional moment to laugh out loud comedy. Aisling’s talent for balancing the comedy and drama is what makes This Way Up such a special show. This Way Up deals with serious themes such as mental health and loneliness; Aisling manages to write with these themes in a comedic way whilst simultaneously taking them seriously. Aisling’s experience as a stand up comedian gave her the practice to tackle difficult subjects through comedy without being heavy handed.
