Created by, starring, and executive produced by standup comedian Ramy Youssef, “Ramy” tells the deeply personal story of 20-something Ramy Hassan, a first generation Egyptian-American who is on a spiritual journey in his politically-divided New Jersey neighborhood. The show brings a new perspective to the screen as it explores the challenges of what it’s like being caught between a Muslim community that thinks life is a moral test and a millennial generation that thinks life has no consequences. The Hollywood Reporter called the series “extremely funny, unexpectedly emotional and consistently eye-opening” and the New York Times described it as “a soulful, funny leap of faith.” “Ramy” continued to receive critical acclaim following its debut in the U.S. on Hulu in 2019, with the success of its first season culminating in Youssef’s 2020 Golden Globe Award win for Best Actor, Television Series Musical or Comedy. It has also been picked up for a second season by Hulu.
