All the Syrian characters depicted in the series are portrayed by Syrian actors; it was of the upmost importance to everyone involved to maintain a high level of authenticity, despite challenges faced including an extended casting process. The series has been hailed as marking the arrival of Arabic dialogue spoken by native speakers on mainstream German television, with those actors no longer confined to short films and theatre performance. Liberame: Nach Dem Sturm is an incredible adaptation of a thrillingly urgent and timely series. The Bantry Bay-produced series has attracted stellar reviews in Germany for the writing, direction, on-screen performances and the cinematic quality of the scenes both at sea and in Hamburg. Now that it has made its successful debut on ZDF, we look forward to it making waves internationally.
