You'll get tingles when Viv, played by Shaina Silver-Baird, sings. Despite Viv’s protests that she “won’t remember any of the words”, the words of a prayer spring to the tip of her tongue and she’s overcome by some inexplicable magic, belting out the song at the top of her lungs, to the shock of the whole congregation. The Rabbi promptly offers her a job as a cantor which she reluctantly takes out of necessity, quickly realizing she has none of the skills required to sing at every sanctified Jewish ceremony under the sun. She falls in love with the Rabbi’s married son (oy), dredges up old family wounds and makes a hilarious, absurd, magical mess of her job. As the story hurtles towards her sister’s Bat Mitzvah, news of the synagogue’s new popstar cantor starts to spread and she has to juggle a whole new kind of pressure. Modern Jewish wit and enough Hebrew Electro-Pop to make Drake smile.
