Love Hurts: The Science of Heartbreak calls on the world’s top experts in the fields of neuroscience, genomics, psychiatry and evolutionary biology among others to get to the heart of heartbreak. In addition to the world's top heartbreak scientists, the film follows individuals who are turning to science to understand what is happening as they go through one of humanity’s most universal and most painful experiences. The film takes viewers on an altering experience, both physically and mentally. We follow recently heartbroken individuals, we are immersed into their world and of course, their heartbreak. We learn about their past relationship and what physical and emotional tolls the rupture of this relationship has taken on their everyday lives. We watch them as they turn to science to help mend their broken hearts, try different treatments and participate in various studies, and hopefully, emerge with tried and true scientific cures for one of humanity’s most agonizing experiences.
