In season one of Beyond Black Beauty, 15-year old equestrian and Olympic hopeful Jolie Dumont's privileged European life implodes when her mother Janelle inexplicably leaves her father and drags Jolie to her family's urban ranch in Baltimore. For Janelle, it's a return home and a chance at a new beginning but, for Jolie, living amongst cowboys, rodeo, and relatives she's never met means her whole world is ending. It's only when a rebellious rescue horse named Black Beauty inspires Jolie with her raw talent that she finds a way forward. These two lost souls develop a deep bond that helps Jolie embrace her family's rodeo legacy, kickstart her Olympic training, and even meet her first love. But as her daughter moves toward the future, Janelle finds herself torn between past and present when her husband decides to fight for his family just as she reconnects with her high school love. Meanwhile, the rest of the family struggles with the changes brought on by the return of two of their own.
