Al Fayed: Predator at Harrods
BBC Current Affairs
UK
- Crime & Investigative
The journalism for this project was driven by a small team of freelance journalists: director Erica Gornall, producer Cassie Cornish-Trestrail, and consultant Keaton Stone. Over nearly a year, overseen by BBC Executive Producer Mike Radford, Erica and Cassie (building on the continuing work of Keaton) gathered evidence from more than 20 women. It was an extraordinarily complex duty of care process, requiring great levels of skill and dedication to allow the women to feel safe enough to speak. Their sensitivity and diligence gave unprecedented numbers of women the confidence to show their faces, transforming the power of the testimony in the film. The truth revealed by the journalists was, in the words of lawyers representing the survivors speaking the day after the broadcast, “one of the worst cases of corporate sexual exploitation that the world has ever seen”.
