POMPEII: THE NEW DIG charts the biggest excavation in Pompeii in a generation. Through the eyes of Italian archaeologists, we experience the thrilling process of discovery and the astonishing finds. They excavate an entire city block off a busy commercial street. Under the pumice and ash, the team discover a bakery, laundry, and an astonishing wealthy villa decorated with stunning frescoes, including the world’s first fresco of a ‘pizza’, an amazing array of workers tool, reliefs of snakes and a room full of furniture. Poignantly they also discover skeletons, probably of enslaved workers trapped in a room near the bakery unable to escape. Using stunning fresco animations, this series brings the viewer closer to the experience of discovery in Pompeii than any before. The series has been a ratings hit around the world and repeatedly created global news. It has been praised for giving the audience a ringside seat at one of the most significant archaeological digs of in the last 70 years.
