We’re living through a golden age of discovery. Right now, over 40 spacecraft are exploring the solar system, more than at any other time in our history. Solar System sees Professor Brian Cox set off on a series of journeys to explore the planets, moons, asteroids, and comets in our astronomical backyard. This innovative series takes the audience to territories never seen before on television: like the lightning storms that rage across Jupiter, ice mountains that tower over Pluto’s surface, and giant dust devils on Mars. This visceral cinematic experience was a huge collaborative effort by a diverse team of scientists, artists, and film makers, as together they told stories of the beauty and awesome nature of the multitude of worlds that surround our Sun. The premiere of Solar System drew a total audience of 4.1M for BBC Two across television and iPlayer, making it the biggest factual title since February 2022, and more than tripling the factual average for the channel.
