Ludwig is a brand-new comedy-drama which launched on BBC1 in September 2024. Written by Mark Brotherhood, the series stars David Mitchell as the reclusive puzzle setter John ‘Ludwig’ Taylor, whose life is upended when his identical twin, DCI James Taylor, disappears. John reluctantly assumes his identity in order to track him down. Ludwig’s high-concept premise, richly drawn central characters, and interweaving of humour and suspense sets it aside as a standout comedy drama. David Mitchell’s performance as John is superb and likewise, Anna Maxwell-Martin’s rendering of Lucy is replete with expert timing and delivery so that the two leads strike up a captivating rapport. The creatives had high standards and attention to detail when bringing the show to life. One example is the magnificent, Beethoven-inspired original score. Another was ensuring that all puzzles seen on screen were solvable so that audiences could pause the show and play along at home.
