- Best Use of Music in a Series
Described as a “glorious, feminist roar” (THE STANDARD) and “a story of resilience, struggles, friendship and the power of music” (THE TIMES), Riot Women is an original, genre-defying 6-episode series centring around five menopausal women who form a punk-rock band – and, in doing so, discover a medium through which to channel their rage, creativity, and to reclaim their place in the world. The show features a curated catalogue of narratively enriching commercial tracks from Hole to The Last Dinner Party, and original tracks written for the series by the Brighton alt-rock/power-pop duo, ARXX - including “Seeing Red”, the Riot Women’s anthemic rock song dedicated to menopause, and the show’s titular song “Riot Women”. Cast members learned to play their musical instruments from scratch for the show, and audience members have reached out to say that they, too, have been inspired by the series to make their first foray into music.
