The Last Musician of Auschwitz is a unique, distinctive, and ambitious film. It powerfully combines probably the last interview with 100 year-old Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, the sole surviving member of the camp orchestra, with archive, stylised testimonials and incredible new performances of music written by victims of Auschwitz, filmed around the camp itself, using vintage lenses made by a German Jewish woman who was herself murdered at the camp. A work of unflinching, searing power, the Telegraph said it was “so stunning and profound that once you have watched you will never forget it” and the Guardian found it “an exceptionally moving film that will ring in your ears for years to come” At a time of global uncertainty, rising antisemitism, and the tragedy unfolding in Gaza, it is vital to support broadcasters making films telling the darkest and most difficult factual stories while speaking to our capacity to struggle for survival and creativity in the face of the worst inhumanity.
