Unforgotten: The Bradford City Fire

acme, BBC

UK

- Sports Documentary

The Guardian’s round up of the UK’s best TV of 2025 was dominated by global hits like Adolescence, The Last Of Us and White Lotus. So for a film like this to be included is welcome proof that documentaries can still make real impact. But while many disasters of the era (Heysel, Hillsborough, Lockerbie) have remained in the public consciousness, the Bradford fire has been largely forgotten. So asking the community to take part required huge sensitivity. With the support of the BBC we were able to reassure everyone we spoke to that we were not trying to sensationalise the story, to solve a mystery or to find a scapegoat. This was simply a film of record that would stand testimony to the 56 people who lost their lives that day. For them, for those who lost loved ones and for those who dealt with the aftermath we are proud the film was received as a celebration of community and collective memory, and a tribute to the extraordinary strength of human spirit and bravery.
