- Best Use of Music in a Series
Winner of the 2025 SXSW TV Spotlight Audience Award, Mix Tape really connected with a wide audience on its release on Binge/Foxtel in Australia and on the BBC in the UK. The feelings of nostalgia inspired by the 1980s killer soundtrack and the emotional resonance of the central love story appealed to an international audience. Adapted by Jo Spain from Jane Sanderson’s acclaimed novel and directed by Lucy Gaffy, the series is produced by Aoife O’Sullivan and Tristan Orpen Lynch for Subotica and Angie Fielder and Polly Staniford for Aquarius Films. Jumping between Sheffield, England in 1989 and the modern day, Mix Tape follows Daniel and Alison, who fell in love as teenagers exchanging mix tapes, and are now leading separate lives, an ocean apart. When Daniel follows Alison on Facebook, sharing a link to a song from their past, she can’t help but respond in kind and so begins a new mix tape. They have families of their own now, but they’re not really breaking any rules, are they?
