“Acts of Love” typifies what 24 Hours in A&E does best; telling stories of life, love and loss amongst the backdrop of the highly pressured A&E department at St George’s hospital in London. In this episode, we hear from patients who have done extraordinary things for the people they love in the most difficult of circumstances. 69 year-old David is in A&E with severe pain in his leg. His wife Christine is with him. Doctors suspect a blood clot and are concerned he could lose his leg. Meanwhile, we hear how David’s first wife had MS – a chronic condition where her quality of life deteriorated leaving David facing one of the most difficult moral decisions a person could face. 90-year-old Annie is also in St George’s after struggling to breathe at home. Her daughter Francesca and granddaughter Tamara are with her. As doctors explore the shadowing on Annie’s lungs, we hear how Annie made an extraordinary sacrifice for her family.
