Freddie Flintoff: Living With Bulimia

South Shore, BBC

UK, IRELAND

- Sports Documentary

As a male suffering from bulimia, Freddie Flintoff is from one of the least represented groups on factual television and in society as a whole. It is estimated by the UK National Eating Disorder Charity BEAT that well over 300,000 men live with eating disorders in Britain, and that up to 60% of men choose not to seek help for fear of being stigmatised. Although eating disorders are the most common form of mental health disorder in the UK they are still perceived largely as a female issue, rendering thousands of young men invisible and struggling in silence. Through Freddie’s willingness to show his vulnerability, and the bravery of the young men and families who he met, this documentary aimed to address that under-representation above all else.
