Bake Off 2021 was a resounding success despite the ongoing challenges of the pandemic, with the focus of creating a series of the highest quality that felt largely untouched by what was going on elsewhere in the country. Casting this series was a particular success with a strong group of characters representing all aspects of British baking, but with distinctly European flavour. Stand out bakers included Bake Off’s very first vegan baker, student Freya, who produced mouth-watering plant-based bakes throughout her time in the tent. Lizzie, while at times lacking in finesse, stole the show in week 8 as she celebrated the ‘extraordinary’ representing her dyslexia and ADHD in a vibrant explosion of sponge and buttercream. Jurgen and his focussed, scientific approach won the nations hearts from week 1 and left viewers reeling as he went home in the semi-final. Judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, alongside hosts Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding lead the bakers through the bubble and the bakes.
