SORT OF is a big-hearted series about Sabi Mehboob, a fluid millennial who straddles various identities from bartender at an LGBTQ bookstore/bar, to the youngest child in a Pakistani family, to the defacto parent of a downtown hipster family. Sabi feels like they're in transition in every aspect of their life, from gender to love to sexuality to family to career. A coming-of-age story, SORT OF exposes the labels we once poured ourselves into as no longer applicable... to anyone. Sort Of is gentle in its approach and allows non-binary characters to just exist as fully complex as they are, a deliberate choice from the creators. What was also important to the creative team was making sure that Bilal wasn’t the only brown, queer person in the writers room; that diversity extended to the cast and crew as well with transgender and non-binary actors playing trans and non-binary roles.
