At every level of the production, we pushed the creative ambition for the show in order to make something extremely high quality, that speaks directly to the young people and communities it centres, in language they can engage with, tackling issues they face every day, but with a warmth, humour and visual flair that makes the show feel unique in the television landscape. The series, like the books it’s based on, isn’t afraid to face the darker challenges of life as a young person, tonally pushing the envelope of what’s often assumed about children’s programming in its exploration of poverty, gang violence, grooming, and grief. But it never loses sight of the joy and community at its heart – a balance shaped by the comedic tone, premium look and positive feel of the series. The joy and imagination that unites our young cast of characters is baked into CRONGTON’s storytelling format and visual style.
