- History & Biography

Through interviews with the lead forensic investigator and lawyers for the squad leader, this four-year investigation shows the flawed prosecution of the Haditha case which allowed those responsible to go unpunished. It also shows, for the first time, testimony given by a surviving eyewitness, which was never played in court. Following its release, US Senator Elizabeth Warren said, “The Pentagon’s Inspector General must evaluate the effectiveness of recent military justice reforms to ensure horrific acts like this don’t go unpunished in the future.” The US Marine Corps told the BBC it would only reopen the investigation if a wealth of new, unexamined, and admissible evidence was introduced. The story was translated into eight languages by the BBC World Service. The film is available worldwide on Youtube, on iPlayer in the UK, and on BBC Select in the US. The Arabic version of the film gives surviving Iraqi families access to the full scope of the investigation for the first time.
