Fag Hag (Mariliendre) is the LGBTQ+ musical audiences have been waiting for. It tells the story of a “mariliendre,” the loyal female friend of a group of gay men. Meri Roman used to be a queen of Madrid’s gay nightlife, but that was over 10 years ago. Now, at 35, she is a dethroned diva, haunted by her past and bored with her present. After her father’s suicide, Meri reconnects with her group of gay friends and revisits her past through iconic musical hits from the 2000s. A new production by “Los Javis” (Veneno, La Mesías) by Suma Content. The series features a “mariliendre,” a key figure in the LGBTQ+ world rarely represented. It explores diversity, inclusion, and non-normative bodies. It won the GLAAD Award for Best Non-English Language Series. A story about second chances, loss, and the importance of family and true friendships.
